What is a green smoothie and why should I drink one?

The new green smoothie is a great way to start the morning or refuel after a workout. A green smoothie is made of primarily leafy vegetables, with fruits and maybe some coconut water as well.

It has antioxidants that help you fight off disease, promotes energy levels, reduces inflammation in the body and provides fiber for digestion.

The benefit of drinking a green smoothie is that you are getting vital nutrients that your body needs.

You can introduce greens into other parts of your diet by adding them to sandwiches or salads for an added boost in nutrition.

Variety of ingredients for your own concoction

You can try different combinations of ingredients for your own smoothie, but this recipe is a great place to start.

Substitute a few ingredients to get a better idea of the tastes you enjoy.

Top five ingredients that are good in any smoothie recipe

  1. The best new green smoothie is made with kale, the tastiest of all greens.
  2. Next up are the light and crisp flavors of celery and cucumber, both these ingredients that you can use to make your vegetable juice drinks even more satisfying.
  3. Lettuce, any type of lettuce works well in this recipe. I personally love romaine for its long stems which are perfect for a stem to hold onto the fruit and ice cubes while you blend it all together.
  4. Lemons. Lemons are a really good ingredient to add into any smoothie. They help with digestion and give it an overall great taste that you’ll enjoy more than other flavors because of the sourness they provide in contrast to all the sweetness from fruits such as bananas or mangoes.

Tip 1: For the liquid, try using coconut water or green tea. Coconut water will give it a tropical vibe.

Tip 2: Adding mint makes it taste like a mojito smoothie. Try adding cucumber to make it more refreshing!

Tip 3: Experiment with different greens to change the flavor and color of your smoothie. For example, kale will have a slightly earthier taste while spinach tastes like sweet peas!

Tip 5: Add some berries as well to make it sweeter or tangier depending on what you prefer. Experimentation is key when making green smoothies so don’t be afraid to try new combinations!

How to meal prep frozen green smoothies

Use frozen fruits and greens, the key is using frozen fruits and greens.

This will ensure that you are getting everything in one glass, without the hassle of measuring out all the ingredients each night before bed. I love adding spinach or kale for extra nutritional benefit!

Fruits to use in a green smoothie

Feel free to experiment with different fruits for different flavors. It’s not stone set to use the same fruits over and over again. Personalize your smoothies and enjoy different tastes!

The fruits I use in my green smoothies are:

-Bananas

-Blueberries

-Strawberries

-Raspberries

-Mangoes

-Peaches

I also like to use apples, and pears. You may add any fruit you would usually eat raw in a salad or as dessert. If it’s not too ripe or mushy, then you can still enjoy the benefits of that particular fruit!

I prefer to save those for snacks instead of adding them to my morning shakes. That way they last longer and don’t go bad so quickly.

Beware that if you use fruits with a darker color, such as blueberries or raspberries the color of your green smoothie will change
